CU PVC Earth Cable
CU PVC earth cable is a copper conductor cable insulated and sheathed with polyvinyl chloride, specifically designed for earthing and protective grounding applications in electrical installations. It provides a low-resistance path to safely carry fault current to earth, helping to protect people, equipment, and structures from electric shock and damage. This type of cable is widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. The conductor of a CU PVC earth cable is made from high‑purity annealed copper, offering excellent electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and long service life. Copper’s low resistivity ensures efficient fault current flow and reduces voltage drop along the earthing system. The conductor is usually stranded to improve flexibility, making installation easier through conduits, trunking, and other confined routes. In some smaller sizes, a solid conductor may be used where flexibility is less critical. The insulation and sheath are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a thermoplastic material known for its good dielectric properties, durability, and ease of processing. PVC provides adequate resistance to moisture, many chemicals, and common household and industrial contaminants. It is also abrasion‑resistant, which helps protect the conductor during installation and throughout its operational life. PVC can be formulated to be flame‑retardant, limiting the spread of fire along cable routes and contributing to overall system safety.CU PVC earth cable is typically color‑coded for easy identification in accordance with regional standards. In many systems, the earth or protective conductor is identified by green/yellow insulation. This clear marking minimizes wiring errors and simplifies inspection, maintenance, and fault‑finding. The cable is available in a broad range of cross‑sectional areas, from small sizes for light‑duty circuits to large sizes for main earthing conductors, bonding of structural steelwork, switchboards, and heavy equipment.Typical applications include main and supplementary equipotential bonding, grounding of distribution boards, connection of metal enclosures and exposed conductive parts, lightning protection systems, and earthing of machinery, transformers, and generators. It is also used in buried earthing grids when suitably protected, and in building installations routed through conduits, cable trays, or trunking.CU PVC earth cable is usually designed and tested in accordance with relevant international or national standards for low‑voltage power cables and earthing conductors. These standards define conductor construction, insulation thickness, voltage rating, test voltages, and performance criteria such as insulation resistance and mechanical properties. Proper selection of cable size is based on fault current levels, fault duration, ambient conditions, and permissible temperature rise, ensuring that the cable can safely carry prospective fault currents without damage.Because of its balance of cost, performance, and ease of handling, CU PVC earth cable remains a common and reliable solution for protective earthing in a wide variety of electrical installations.
